Indian Designers' Page

Fashion designers are the real masters that embellish the beauty of women. Everybody doesn't have that perfect figure and elegant personality that should be flaunted. In fact nobody is perfect in this world. If someone is dark, then the other is plump or short. It is the fashion designers that help you show off your best body features and disguise your body flaws through intelligent smart dressing. They shape up your body in the most modest manner and make you look stunning and sensuous.

Fashion designers have brought about a storm in this glamor world with their commendably fabulous variety. In the famous fashion designers list, the top Indian & International fashion designers are Ritu Kumar, Ritu Beri, Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, Hemant Trivedi, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Donatella Versace and Vallentino. There is something unique about every designer. One might focus on ethnic styling and the other on hottest western collection. Fashion industry has always welcomed new talent giving rise to the budding stars of tomorrow.

When it comes to fashion, its not just about smart clothing but it's about grooming your personality as a whole. For example if you are wearing the best of ensemble but with a wrong combination of shoes or handbag, it will spoil the whole charm of your elegant dress. Thus, there is a need to maintain balance and harmony. Everything should go well with the other. It is the fashion designers that work on you as a whole and enhance your attractiveness from head to toe.Delhi-based designer Nikhil of the duo Shantanu-Nikhil also feels fashion designing is an emerging market in India.
“Fashion designing is a new industry in our country, which is emerging like anything. Moreover in a country like India, where the majority of the population is young, we have a very great future with a very big market to cater to.
“The industry is so big that it is ready to accommodate any number of young designers. No number will create any kind of saturation. There is a huge scope,” said Nikhil.
Apart from designing for their own label, Shantanu and Nikhil have designed for sports brands, dressed leading sports personalities, including Serena Williams, Sania Mirza, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Glen Mcgrath, Stephen Fleming as well as top notch Bollwood stars like Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan.
“We had designed clothes for IPL’s (Indian Premier League) Mumbai Indians team. We have also tied up with many big corporate names and we call it corporatisation of the fashion industry,” Shantanu told IANS.

Hyderabad-based designer Asmita Marwah said: “According to me, the growth of the fashion industry has been somewhat slow if we compare it with other countries. But it is now growing at a fast pace and there is a huge untapped talent and unexplored market here.
There is big young population, so many consumers for new trends and products. We have to take this industry very seriously.”

Neetu's the new fashionista

Neetu Chandra seems to have become a favourite with fashion designers nowadays. While ace designer Rocky S roped her in as the showstopper for his fashion show in Delhi this week, the very next day Neetu was again the showstopper for topline fashion designer Neeta Lulla’s fashion show in Chandigarh.

The actress has become a good choice for most designers, simply because she has lost a lot of weight and has been glowing with radiance in her latest lean avatar. Moreover, she takes to stage without needing rehearsals, as if like fish to water.

“Being a ramp showstopper gives me a different kind of high and confidence,” says Neetu. “Most of the time, I get piercing looks or raised eyebrows, followed by a lot of instant attention, love, affection and warmth from the audience. It feels as if I got a thousand jadu ki jhappis all together. It’s ecstatic and I love all of it.”

Romp on, Neetu. Romp on.

With the Indian fashion industry creating waves on the global map, the newbies are vociferous about leaving a distinct stamp on the fashion world. After Hrs chatted with the young breed of designers who showcased their collection at Lakme Fashion Week and found that the need to cater to their Indian sensibilities ran strong among most of them.

Designer Nachiket Barve, who’s worked with designer Michael Kors, is known for his contemporary styles and use of ecletic colours. He showcased a collection called Magpies at the LFW.

“Fashion has come a long way — from being high up in the clouds to gaining a place in every individual’s life,” says Nachiket, who feels that India needs to have its own fashion calendar. “We should work on having our own fashion calendar, instead of following the International fashion calendar. We do follow seasons like they do, we are more festive driven,” he adds.
Masaba Gupta flaunted her collection called the Thinking Bride, her style being ethnic bohemian. “You can see my culture through my work. The designs have a strong of Indianess to it. It’s an indispensable part of my style,” she describes.

Designer Anupama Dayal feels that it’s the best time to be in the fashion industry. “Women now realize the significance of fashion to one’s self-esteem. It’s their privilege, and made them stronger, braver and free,” says Anupama. While she’s happy about the fact that fashion is spreading across the country, she feels there’s been too many fashion weeks happening of late. “I have nothing against so many fashion weeks cropping up as long as there are buyers. Fashion is not just about entertainment, it’s also business. As long asthat message is clear, the future is bright,” she ends.
